Description
What determines which fish get caught and which get away from the net? Is it how hard they twist their bodies or flap their tails? Or is it just luck of the draw? Looks like this fisherman missed more than he caught, but there's plenty out there -- he'll be back!
This mixed media piece is made with orange peels, sunflower seed hulls, mesh produce bags, leaves from the shrub in my front yard, and crushed red pepper flakes and seeds from a pizza company. And lots of imagination!
UPDATE in 2021: I've just recently discovered a word for the specific kind of artwork I like to do, which I've been calling "junk art": Bricolage, which then makes me a bricoleur. Now doesn't that sound so much better than junk art? LOL Bricolage (from the French), when referring to art, is to "use a diverse range of non-traditional art materials." That definition comes from www.tate.org.uk. The same website states: "Arte povera artists constructed sculptures out of rubbish in an attempt to devalue the art object and assert the value of the ordinary and everyday." I don't make arte povera -- my goal is always to elevate the items I'm using, not to devalue my final pieces by using low-value items.

I really love this one Lori, love the colours. Clever use of conifers? for the pink coral and the little blue/pink fish at the bottom. What fun. L/F

This is just wonderful. It's at if you scooped up some of the sea and put it in a window.
