The other day when I arrived at work, just after I clocked in, the fire alarm went off. I thought about calling out, "It wasn't me! I didn't do it!" but decided the moment wasn't really right for humor. I'd left my coat in the car, because I didn't expect to be more than a few seconds outside, and I'd forgotten my cane at home. But we all had to leave the building, and all the employees had to gather in front of the liquor store which is in the next building over from ours. That meant walking across the parking lot in the rain. One of my coworkers gave me his arm, as he saw me struggling with the distance. Once safely under the roof in front of liquor store, we grumbled more-or-less cheerfully about standing outside in the cold. I stepped to the edge of the crowd and took pictures to send to my husband: "Me and 400 of my nearest and dearest friends standing outside in the cold because of a fire alarm at the store." (Actually the store where I work only has around 200 employees...
