Funny how you think you're making a picture of one thing, and when you're done you realize you've done something different altogether. I photographed a handful of pen lids, thinking I would call it something funny like "Pen Lids Huddling Like Pen-Guins."
But as I looked at the finished piece, I suddenly saw a figure at the bottom in the negative space, with its arms upstretched, like an orchestra conductor or choir master and the picture took on a whole new meaning. Thank you to all the conductors, the choir masters, the music teachers in our schools and churches and community centers, who fill our lives with such joy.
