This is gorgeous. Love it on the different prints. Beautiful mix of colors without the muddy effect.

Lori Kingston replied:

I think was a case of the paint being too thick to mix much! LOL I was just learning to use acrylics, and didn't yet know how much I could thin it down -- had NO idea I could tilt the canvas and let the paint move on its own! I just pushed the paint around with a scraper until I was more-or-less happy with it, and as it dried I decided I really liked it. By the way, check out "Startled Right Outta My Hat" -- it's a digital piece made with a section from the right side of this one. And this is actually cut out of the center of a larger piece that became the mat for "Idyllic Childhood" -- I don't believe in wasting anything! :D

Artist's Description

A majestic purple mountain turns out to be a volcano, spewing fire high into the sky, and raining destruction down all around it.

Of course this must be a west-coast volcano, as I envision that blue on the left to be the Pacific Ocean. Maybe this is part of the Ring of Fire that surrounds the Pacific, and whose eruptions and quakes will one day (according to scientists) slide the entire west coast into that ocean. Or, as a comedian once said, will hold the west coast in place while the rest of the continent slides into the Atlantic. (grin)

This was part of an early experiment working with acrylic paints and acrylic mediums. The paint was too thick, and it cracked as it dried, but to me that actually adds to the explosiveness of the volcano.
