Artist's Description
I don't know that I have laurels to rest on, but somehow the dark green ring in this image brought to mind the phrase "resting on (one's) laurels" and that's where I went with the title.
This began as a photo of three pineapples in the produce section of the supermarket where I work; two had very yellow to brown skins, and the third was quite green. When I started to make a kaleidoscope with the photo, I decided on a 5-pointed pattern, rather than the 2 points I've been using a lot lately. No particular reason -- just wanted to change things up a little. I love how the green flower formed in the center -- I wouldn't have gotten it with a 2-pointed pattern!
In reading up a little about pineapples just now, I learned that they are actually considered succulents! Didn't know that! Also, as they grow, they start out as multiple flowers which over time merge into a single fruit, which is why there are so many shells and bracts on the skin -- they're remnants of those mu...
