Description
My father was a Southern Baptist missionary to Brazil for 32 years. He cried when he left, but he felt it was important that he not be standing over the younger generations' shoulders. He wanted to give them the freedom he'd had to make their own way. And he was as American as he had become Brazilian. He loved his home in the U.S., and was happy to be close to family again. During his life he was a scholar, a pastor, a preacher, and a teacher; a mentor to young people just starting their ministry; a photographer who bought me my first camera and taught me to use it; a good husband, father, and friend. He was a good man, and he is very much missed.
I painted this the week after he passed away, and gave out cards with this image on them at his Celebration of Life service a few weeks later. The original painting was donated to White Springs Baptist Church, where my dad served as a deacon and my mom as church librarian until shortly before he died. God, whom he served so faithfully all his life, endures beyond and into eternity.

Lori, this is such a beautiful tribute to your father; both the painting and your words speaking of him.
