Description
"This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger." Luke 2:12
Playing with flower petals has given me the opportunity to make all sorts of pictures, but this is the best one, the most meaningful, because this is the beginning of most important story ever told, or at least the earthly beginning of it. Jesus, the son of God, came to earth to be born to a young woman named Mary, who was in Bethlehem with her husband Joseph at the time, and they were staying in a stable because there wasn't room for them in any inn in town. They had to sleep wherever they could. From being literally The Most High, He came down to the lowest point, a homeless child, sleeping in a manger. But Mary and Joseph took care of Him, angels watched over Him, shepherds came to worship Him, and wise men came from the east with gifts that gave His family the means to escape those who would have done Him harm.
Flower petals used in this picture include tinted poms, dahlias, and zinnias, and the background is an acrylic painting on paper, so this is a mixed media piece. There is also a digital component -- the cross-hatched frame surrounding the picture was made by repeating a pattern I'd made with petals. It will make nice Christmas card.
